Mapping Your Protective Pattern

A guided reflection for understanding what happens inside you when you feel activated and how protective patterns can shape your relationships.

When something feels threatening in a relationship, we often respond before we fully understand what is happening inside of us. We may withdraw, defend, pursue, explain, fix, control, or accommodate in an effort to protect something that feels vulnerable.

This two-part reflection guide helps you slow that process down. You’ll explore what activated you, the story you began telling yourself, what felt threatened underneath, and how you responded to protect yourself.

Then, you’ll look at how your protective response may impact the other person, how their protection impacts you, and how the two can become a repeating relational pattern.

The goal isn’t to get rid of your protective patterns. It’s to understand them, take responsibility for how they impact your relationships, and expand your capacity to respond with greater choice and intention.

What Happens After the Hurt

A guided reflection for understanding relational hurt and deciding what comes next.

When something hurts in a relationship, it can be easy to move quickly from what happened to what we believe it means about ourselves, the other person, or the relationship.

This two-part reflection guide helps you slow that process down. You’ll explore what happened, what happened inside of you, what meaning you made of the moment, what may be connected to your history or the history of the relationship, and what you still don’t know.

Then, rather than reacting from the hurt alone, you’ll consider what belongs to you, what doesn’t, what the hurt may actually need, and what a healthy next step might be.

The goal isn’t to talk yourself out of what you feel. It’s to understand your experience more clearly so you can respond more intentionally.
